Chattahoochee Valley Community College to hold first In-Person Graduation Ceremony since COVID-19 Pandemic

Wednesday, May 12th, 2021

Chattahoochee Valley Community College’s (CVCC) 2021 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 12, at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, Columbus, Georgia, at 10 a.m. EST.

Safety precautions including wearing face masks and placing chairs six feet apart are in place and will be enforced.  A limited number of guests will be in attendance as each graduate was allowed to invite two guests to the ceremony. College administrators say they are excited to be able to recognize graduates in this safe, personal way for the first time in more than a year.

“CV’s graduation ceremony was completely virtual last year in an effort to keep everyone safe at the height of the pandemic,” said Dr. Sherri Taylor, Dean of Students and Campus Services. “This year, we are honored to recognize our students in-person while continuing to follow CDC recommendations. Although all colleges have done the best we can in this pandemic to adjust to a virtual world, nothing can take the place of seeing a graduate cross the stage to accept his or her diploma in person. Graduation represents the end of a journey, the accomplishment of a major life goal, and the beginning of a career or transfer to a four-year institution. It’s a significant milestone.”

The event will be live-streamed and can be accessed by visiting the College website at www.cv.edu.

The College will confer 218 degrees and certificates. The faculty marshals are Teresa Brown, Nursing Instructor with the Health Sciences Division and Anna McGhee, English Instructor with the English and Communications Division. Student marshals include Makai Gagliano and Michele Gallagher.
