CVCC Invites Community to COVID Comeback Bus Tour
Friday, June 25th, 2021
Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) is hitting the road with a “COVID COMEBACK” bus tour to encourage community members to enroll in CVCC in the fall. On Friday, June 25, CVCC will make stops at three Piggly Wiggly locations in Phenix City, Alabama to share information and assist prospective students in completing the enrollment and financial aid application processes. College officials say there is a growing demand to provide opportunities for people to enhance their skills, in order to get back to work, and CVCC has quality programs to help people do just that. The bus tour is one way to spread the word about these opportunities.
“CVCC is a resource to this community,” said Dean of Students and College Services Dr. Sherri Taylor. “Employers need skilled workers and potential employees need training to help them develop necessary skills to work and make a better life for themselves and their families. It’s been about sixteen months since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and unemployment benefits are now changing. We have programs designed to prepare students for high-demand jobs that are available now, and we want to help folks get back on their feet and support their families.”
Taylor reported career tech programs like welding, industrial maintenance, and fire science are available at the College. The demand for workers in the healthcare industry such as nursing, nursing assistant, and EMS, have always been in high demand and are at an all-time high right now. CVCC has programs in all of these areas.
College officials emphasize that CVCC is a good choice for the traditional student, as well. Students who have recently graduated high school and want to eventually earn a 4-yar degree or go right into a technical program can get a quality education locally.
Staff members will share information about programs of study, financial aid, and other resources during the bus tour, spending approximately two hours at each location. Potential students have the opportunity to apply on site as well as talk one-on-one with employees to get their questions answered. One of the highlights of the CVCC bus tour is that a partial scholarship will be given away at each stop.
“This is an absolute win for the community and the College,” said Taylor with excitement. “We are taking the College to the people, and we are here to help make lives better.”
Fall registration is set for August 18, 19, and 20, with classes beginning on August 23. For more information, visit cv.edu or call 334-291-4998.
