“Beethoven’s Back on Broadway!”

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is delighted to announce the 2021-2022 Concert Season presented by TSYS. Executive Director, Eric Thomas commented, “Thanks to the wonderful support we have received from our community over the past year, we have a plan to return to pre-pandemic levels of activity over the next three seasons. This upcoming season represents the first year of that recovery plan and we expect continued growth over the next three years.”
Music Director and Conductor, George Del Gobbo commented, “As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra is more robust than ever. Please take part in this first year of our three-year recovery plan and enjoy with us the wonder that is live symphonic music.”
The CSO kicks off their 2021-2022 season on October 16th with “Vivaldi in Venice.” Join the CSO as they celebrate one of the most influential Venetian musicians of the Baroque era with a program that includes Autumn from the monumental work, The Four Seasons.
In his return to Bill Heard Theatre, the CSO will welcome Violinist Angelo Xiang Yu on November 13th for a dazzling performance of Beethoven’s powerful Violin Concerto in D Major, Op 61 as the CSO presents “The Greats: Beethoven & Schubert.” Yu is the recipient of both the 2019 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 2019 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award. Winning consistent critical acclaim and enthusiastic audience response worldwide, Yu is best known for his astonishing technique and exceptional musical maturity.
January 22nd will bring a performance of three Beatles songs like you have never heard before! Soprano Lindsay Kesselman will grace the stage of Bill Heard Theatre for “Respighi, Barber, Berio, and Ives.” Kesselman is hailed by Fanfare Magazine as an “artist of growing reputation for her artistry and intelligence…with a voice of goddess-like splendor.”
Plan your Valentine’s weekend with tickets to a romantic evening of music as the CSO presents “Serenade!” on February 12th in Legacy Hall. This charming concert will feature serenades in an intimate performance that will leave listeners smitten with sound, and hearts skipping to the downbeats.
On March 26th, award-wining pianist Dominic Cheli will accompany the CSO for a performance celebrating two Beethoven masterpieces. This riveting performance includes his Piano Concerto No. 5 “The Emperor,” and his 3rd Symphony, “Eroica.”
“Northern Lights” will round out the season on April 9th as the CSO’s Maestro Del Gobbo transports us to a night in Scandinavia. From Morning Mood to In the Hall of the Mountain King, Grieg’s suite opens with distinct Nordic flair followed by his flourishing piano concerto. Sibelius’ transcendent second symphony concludes the concert and the season.

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1855, is the second orchestra founded in the nation and the first founded in Georgia.
