Georgia Power Employees, Retirees Recycle Old Work Shirts, Uniforms to be Used for Homemade Goods and Gifts by Re:Loom

Georgia Power employees and retirees in Columbus recently came together to recycle old company logo-ed items for future re-use. Re:loom, a nonprofit program of the Initiative for Affordable Housing with take old work uniforms and memorabilia to create homemade goods for sale.
The nonprofit in Decatur (DeKalb County) employs homeless and low-income individuals to weave and create beautiful bags, rugs, key chains, bracelets, blankets and other mementos.
While recycling these items is not only a cost savings for the company, it also allows Georgia Power employees and retirees to divert waste that would usually end up in a landfill.
Re:loom has worked with several other companies including Delta Airlines and Orkin, to recycle old branded items and uniforms for other purposes.
With more than 40 chapters statewide, Citizens of Georgia Power - the employee volunteer arm of the company – gives back to their local communities through in-person and virtual volunteer projects, fundraisers, and donations. In 2020, Citizens’ members logged more than 55,000 hours of service equal to $1.5 million.
