With one in three families experiencing diaper insecurity, Helping Mamas, Georgia’s only baby supply bank, partnered with The Family Center of Columbus to hold a distribution event for families needing essential items like diapers and period products on June 4. Representatives from the offices of Congressman Sanford Bishop and Senator Raphael Warnock as well as State Senator Ed Harbison and Florence Dawkins with the Muscogee County School District joined Helping Mamas and The Family of Columbus to serve 375 individuals in need.
“We are thrilled to be able to help the families in Columbus,” says Helping Mamas founder and CEO, Jamie Lackey. “Thanks to the generous support of our partners, we can expand our reach into more cities.”
There has been an exponential rise in diaper insecurity rates due to the pandemic, and during this single event, Helping Mamas was able to distribute 17,067 diapers, 2,240 period products and 250 hygiene kits. This distribution event was held in partnership with The National Diaper Bank Network and Kimberly-Clark.
