The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus (YOGC) opens its 28th season with a Halloween Spook-tacular concert on Tuesday, October 26th at The Columbus Georgia Convention and Trade Center. Featuring a string orchestra and the Chattahoochee Valley’s only youth symphony orchestra, the concert begins at 7:30pm and is free and open to the public.

This concert will feature Halloween-themed music and classical music that is commonly associated with the Halloween season. The String Orchestra will perform pieces with fun spooky-spirited titles like “Rosin Eating Zombies From Outer Space” and “Bats and Bones”. The Youth Orchestra’s program includes iconic Halloween season music featuring an orchestral arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Danse Macabre (with a special violin solo featuring concertmaster Sam Vaillancourt), and the March to the Scaffold movement from Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.

Since 1993, the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus has been teaching the area’s most talented young musicians. Led by nationally-awarded Music Director and Conductor Jim Palmer, YOGC maintains the only symphonic orchestral opportunity in the region for children; a string orchestra; a chamber group program; a non-adjudicated music festival provided at no cost to local public school music programs; and a week-long summer string camp focused on alternative genres of music and playing styles.
