CVCC Partners with Mother Mary Mission to Offer New GED Classes

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

Chattahoochee Valley Community College is pleased to announce the opening of a new General Educational Development (GED) and Alabama Non-Traditional High School Diploma Option (HSDO) class at the historic campus of Mother Mary Mission located at 318 South Seale Road. Everyone is invited to attend an open house set for Monday, October 11, 2021 at 5:30 pm EST. Classes at the site begin October 13, and those interested may sign up at the open house or call 334-214-4849 to register. Dr. Darren Dean, Director of Adult Education, is excited the College has the opportunity to collaborate with Mother Mary Mission.

“Coach Frank Brown, the Director of Mother Mary Mission, reached out to us about a potential partnership to provide a class there,” Dean said. “We thought it would be a great location, and we’re thrilled to work with Mother Mary Mission in their efforts to serve the community around Seale Road. This new location is important to the community, because it provides a site on the south side of Phenix City, which we do not currently have.”

The Mother Mary Mission site is one of six off-campus sites for the GED and the HSDO class. Other off-campus sites include the Chuck Roberts Activity Center, The Children & Family Connection of Russell County, Ladonia Elementary School, Lee County Detention Center, and Russell County Detention Center. Several classes are offered on CVCC’s campus and all classes are offered at a variety of days and times. A virtual option is also available. In addition to these classes, CVCC offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) preparation, and the Ready-to-Work Program, just to name a few.

“This is what Adult Education looks like at CVCC,” said Dean.  “We work to meet students where they are as they transition to the next level of their career path. These programs help people get valuable skills and a better job.”
