Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) is proud to announce three distinguished inductees for Hall of Fame 2022 in preparation of the College’s annual awards banquet to be held on March 10, 2022.

The awards recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions, their communities, and CVCC. These Inductees embody the highest standards of excellence and are recognized by the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Foundation. This year, the College is pleased to announce its three honorees: In the category of Distinguished Athlete, Ms. Loretta Rosanne Cobb, Mr. Mike Bunn as Distinguished Alumni, and Dr. Brenda Coley in the area of Distinguished Service.

Ms. Loretta Rosanne Cobb made her basketball debut at Marshall Middle School, where she was one of three girls selected to play on the boy’s team as a starter in the seventh and eighth grades. She attended Spencer High School, where she was selected as the first freshman on the Ledger-Enquirer All- Bi-City girls basketball team in 1978. She transferred to Columbus High her sophomore year due to the relocation of Spencer. Cobb earned All-Bi-City honors all four years in high school, then played for Chattahoochee Valley Community College from 1981-1983. In addition to be being recognized as Distinguished Athlete for CVCC’s 2022 Hall of Fame, Cobb will be inducted to The Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022 in February.

Off the court, Cobb founded the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Walk of Faith, a nonprofit organization that aims to bring healthcare awareness to the community through education and resources presented annually by healthcare professionals and vendors. She is the owner of Just Sportwear, a company that engages in and gives back to the community. Cobb is a positive role model for today's CVCC students because of how she excelled on the court and in her community.

Mr. Mike Bunn currently serves as Director of Historic Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort, Alabama. Previously, he directed the Historic Chattahoochee Commission (a bi-state agency operating in southeastern Alabama and southwestern Georgia), and worked as a curator with the Columbus (Georgia) Museum and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History’s Museum of Mississippi. He has also worked with the Birmingham Historical Society and the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society. Bunn says, “I have a passion for history and believe there is no more powerful connection with the past than visiting a site where history happened. I have been reading, researching, and writing about history of the Gulf South my entire career, and traveling to visit its incredible historic sites my whole life. My primary interests are colonial, antebellum, and Civil War history.”

Bunn is from the Chattahoochee Valley area where he started his career as a student at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. From there, he continued his education in the area of history and public history. He has gone on to become not only a historian, but an author of several books. Many of his books include the history of the Chattahoochee Valley. They include: Fourteenth Colony: The Forgotten Story of the Gulf South During America’s Revolutionary Era; Early Alabama: An Illustrated Guide to the Formative Years, 1798-1826; Alabama: From Territory to Statehood; Historic Blakeley State Park: A Guide to the History and Heritage; Well Worth Stopping to See: Antebellum Columbus, Georgia Through the Eyes of Travelers, and many more. CVCC is proud to recognize Mr. Bunn as the 2022 Inductee in the category of Distinguished Alumni.

Dr. Brenda Coley is actively involved in the community. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the East Alabama Chamber of Commerce and United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. Dr. Coley is also a member of the Council Leader for Alabama Schools (CLAS), a member of the Rho Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated located in Columbus, Georgia.

Dr. Coley's philosophy of life is "Give to the world the best you have, and the best will come back to you." Dr. Coley deserves to be recognized as the 2022 Hall of Fame Distinguished Service recipient. She is always giving her best and encouraging the individuals around her to also give their best.

“It is such an honor for us as an institution to recognize and celebrate these individuals, “said President Jackie Screws. “We pride ourselves in providing a quality education and great service to our communities, and these inductees exemplify this high standard. What better way to honor our inductees than by also helping future graduates who have a need. The monies raised at this premiere event support our students with scholarship funding.”

One of the highlights of this event is a silent auction. In years past some of the most popular items have included international trips, spa packages, and tickets to premiere sports events. On average, anywhere from 40 to 60 items (some in bundled packages) are available for bid. The College is currently accepting donations for the silent auction.

The Hall of Fame event also includes a dinner and entertainment. This evening of food, fun,

and fellowship is set for March 10, 2022, at the National Infantry Museum located at 1775 Legacy Way in Columbus, Georgia. Tickets are $75 and sponsorships for the event are available.
