Annual Survey of Local Population Experience Homelessness - Preliminary Data
Friday, February 25th, 2022
Home for Good of United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley conducted their fourteenth annual survey of individuals experiencing homelessness in Muscogee and Russell County on Tuesday, February 22nd and Wednesday, February 23rd. The survey, known as the Point In Time (PIT) Count, assess the number of people in our community who are experiencing homelessness. This count helps in understanding who in our community needs assistance which guides more effective programs and services. The goal is to connect with individuals, so they receive the care they need. Everyone deserves safe and permanent housing.
This year, a total of 244 individuals experiencing homelessness, in shelters, transitional housing, and unsheltered, were surveyed in Muscogee and Russell County. The survey collects data about each individual’s current housing situation, family, and health.
The 244 total is up 2% from last year, many of which are most likely due to the pandemic. Due to generous donations and the availability of Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) Funds, Home for Good and partners were able to mitigate the effect of the pandemic on a vulnerable population.
We would like to thank our Chair for this year’s Point In Time Count Holli Browder, Director of the Columbus Parks.
We would like to thank the many volunteers without whom we could not do the work we do. Thank you.
