Yesterday, Columbus Technical College (CTC) hosted a premiere event designed to encourage students from schools in the area to consider enrolling. The event is one in a series of initiatives hosted by the Gear Up Program aimed at following students from middle school through high school in hopes of attracting them to pursue coursework in an area of study offered by CTC. Aptly titled “Transition Day,” students can expect a formal tour of the campus, it’s programs and state of the art equipment.
In October 2016, Georgia received its first statewide GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program) Grant. On behalf of the Governor’s Office, the University System of Georgia will administer the seven-year, $21-million-dollar grant awarded by US Department of Education. CTC is actively supporting students in their quest to obtain a high school diploma, prepare for post-secondary education, and support through their first year of college.
CTC offers technical certificates of credit, diplomas and associate degrees in program areas like nursing, dental assisting, emergency medical services, early childhood care and education, drafting technology, machine tool technology, computer networking, criminal justice, cosmetology and barbering, welding, and many more.
College Officials will also be on hand at ‘Transition Day” to provide information, live demonstrations and advisement. Efforts are designed to help potential students make decisions on a course of study, to submit applications and apply for financial aid to cover school related expenses as they transition from high school to CTC.
CTC’s Gear Up Program “Transition Day” is the culminating effort to finalize return on investment for formal recruitment directed towards students in the Muscogee County School District.
