Piedmont Columbus Regional Promotes Organ Donation in Nationwide Effort to Save Lives
Tuesday, April 5th, 2022
April is National Donate Life Month and Piedmont Columbus Regional is proud to support this national effort. This month-long observance was created to highlight the importance of donation and encourage our community to register as organ, eye and tissue donors to save and enhance lives.
Currently, there are more than 106,000 individuals in the United States waiting for their gift of life and nearly 4,100 of those are our friends and neighbors in Georgia.
“Organ and tissue donation saves and improves lives in our community - across Georgia and across the nation,” said Steve Anderson, Hospital Development Liaison with Lifelink of Georgia. “Joining the donor registry gives hope to those in our community in need of organ and tissue transplants, while leaving a legacy of generosity for the donor.”
For more than 25 years, Piedmont Transplant in Atlanta has offered care to patients across the country and has been recognized as one of the nation’s most successful transplant programs. They have performed over 3,200 transplant surgeries for liver, pancreas, kidney and heart recipients. Piedmont Transplant has satellite clinics across the state of Georgia including Columbus, Athens, Dalton, Macon and Savannah.
Approximately 17 people die every day while awaiting a lifesaving transplant and a new
name is added to the United Network for Organ Sharing waiting list every 9 minutes.
One person can potentially save or enhance more than 75 lives through organ and tissue donation. If you are not a registered donor, please consider registering today by visiting
