Friday, June 3rd, 2022
On May 29, Piedmont Columbus Regional, in partnership with the state of Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan, welcomed Danny Lake, the hospital’s first “529 Day Baby,” and awarded him a $1,529 contribution to his Path2College 529 Plan savings account.
“We’re grateful for this generous gift at the beginning of our son’s life. Education is the foundation for building a healthy community,” said the Lake family.
This is the seventh year the Path2College 529 Plan has partnered Piedmont Columbus Regional to award a college savings account to a “529 Day Baby.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in the future education of one of our youngest patients. The goals of this program align with our mission to support the needs of children in our community and to make a difference in the lives we touch,” said Cary Burcham, Chief Nursing Officer at Piedmont Columbus Regional.
States across the country recognize May 29–known as 529 Day– as a day to raise awareness about each state’s 529 plan and the importance of saving for college.
“Throughout the year we promote the benefit of financial planning for future education goals. The 529 Day Baby celebration raises awareness of Georgia’s college savings plan and will inspire families to utilize the resources we have to help them save,” said Georgia Student Finance Commission President Lynne Riley.
Families who welcome a new baby in 2022 also have an opportunity to win money for their newborn’s college savings. Parents, grandparents and guardians of Georgia babies born in 2022 may go to www.Path2College529.com until April 14, 2023, for official rules, prize details and to enter for a chance to win the 2022 Newborn Sweepstakes. Entrants must be legal residents or taxpayers of Georgia and at least 18 years of age to enter. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Sponsored by the Path2College 529 Plan.
