There is greater opportunity for local Alabama high school students to earn college credit at Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC). The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) has expanded scholarship guidelines for dual enrollment programs which allow students to take college courses while in high school (including homeschool). 

For several years, CVCC has offered dual enrollment career technical scholarships in which students take courses like Medical Assisting, Welding, Childcare and Development, and other career technical courses free of charge. That offering is still in place; however, for the first time, those scholarship funds are not limited to only career tech courses. The College is now also able to offer academic dual enrollment scholarships. Students may now complete general education courses like English, Speech, Music, and History, just to name a few, and receive college credit with no costs for tuition and fees if they qualify for a dual enrollment scholarship. 

“CVCC is very excited to be able to expand opportunities for high school students to receive these scholarships,” said Dr. Sherri Taylor, Dean of Students and Campus Services. “We’ve had extreme success with Career Technical scholarships in our service area high schools over the past several years, and now we are able to offer scholarships to students who wish to pursue associate degrees and/or complete their general education requirements towards a college degree. We’ve had several students complete their high school diplomas and be awarded their associate degrees at the same time. It’s a great time to be a Pirate, and we welcome our high school students at CVCC and will continue to provide the support they need to be successful.” 

Dual enrollment is available to students in grades 10^th through 12^th who have a minimal 2.5 GPA. Eligible high school students must receive permission from their school to participate, submit an application to the CVCC admissions office, and complete the dual enrollment scholarship packet. These scholarships are available now for the upcoming fall semester that begins in August, and students and parents are encouraged to act quickly.
