Columbus State University, in partnership with WRBL News 3, will host a debate between the candidates for Georgia's U.S. House of Representatives' 2nd congressional district on Oct. 26 in University Hall on CSU’s Main Campus. In addition to a live, in-person audience, the debate will be broadcast and live-streamed on WRBL.com beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The incumbent, Democrat Sanford Bishop, and Republican challenger Chris West will both participate in the hour-long debate. It will be moderated by WRBL news anchors Teresa Whitaker and Phil Scoggins.

“Engagement is one of our core values here at CSU, and we are pleased to co-host this debate with WRBL,” said Dr. John Fuchko III, CSU’s interim president. “This event presents an opportunity for our students and campus community to become more informed voters and reminds them of the critical role they play in the electoral process.”

"WRBL is proud to announce the debate between incumbent Democratic Congressman Sandford Bishop and Republican challenger Chris West for Georgia's 2nd Congressional District seat," added Joe McGuire, vice president and general manager of WRBL-TV. "This is the second recent debate WRBL has held in partnership with Columbus State University, following the April Columbus mayoral debate.”

The candidates will field questions from a panel that will include journalists from WRBL and CSU representatives. The format will also call for viewer-submitted questions to the candidates.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2022.
