Columbus Sees Drop in November Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Columbus recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in November, down two-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.
"We are seeing job numbers continue to rise across the state as Georgians secure employment,” said Commissioner Butler. “Unemployment rates also dropped in regions throughout Georgia in November as we entered the holiday employment period.”
The labor force decreased in Columbus by 576 and ended the month with 121,677. That number went down by 424 when compared to November of 2021.
Columbus finished the month with 117,455 employed residents. That number decreased by 262 over the month and went down by 472 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Columbus ended November with 123,300 jobs. That number went up by 800 from October to November and rose by 2,900 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went up by 24 percent in Columbus in November. When compared to last November, claims were down by about 2 percent.
