PCR Auxiliary Welcomes Back Youth Volunteer Program
Tuesday, January 10th, 2023
The Piedmont Columbus Regional Auxiliary is excited to welcome back the youth volunteer program. The Auxiliary has sponsored the Youth Volunteer Program for over 55 years.
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, youth volunteers are encouraged to apply and return to volunteering in the healthcare setting. The program’s goal is to attract and retain volunteers, ages 14-18, who are passionately pursuing careers in healthcare.
“The Youth Volunteer Program has seen thousands of students over the years and each one has brought value to the hospital and in return has had a valuable experience. An experience that is not achievable in a classroom setting,” said Nancy Williams, Director of Volunteer Services at Piedmont Columbus Regional.
This summer, each volunteer accepted into the program must commit to 3 weeks of volunteering - June 5 through June 23. The hours each day are 9 a.m. -3 p.m., each student will accrue up to 36 hours of volunteer time.
During the program, students will experience two different placements, including some non-clinical areas. Acceptance into the program is based on completed application, references, face-to-face interview, submitted essay and student’s availability.
“Many of the youth volunteers have gone on to pursue careers in the healthcare field. The Auxiliary is dedicated to the providing the youth in our community the opportunity to experience healthcare up close,” said Williams.
