Greenlee Lamb, 12, is the 2023 CMN Champion for The Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional.

On April 23, 2015, Greenlee and her grandmother were involved in a head-on collision where the at-fault driver, who was looking for a water bottle in the floorboard, crossed the center lane hitting them.

Greenlee was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional where she needed immediate surgery; her skull was cracked and lacerated— causing brain bleeding and increased pressure. After surgery, she was in the Pediatric ICU where she remained in a coma, received blood, and her brain pressure was monitored. There were several times her family did not think she was going to wake up. Her physician told them on two occasions, "You are going to ask if she is going to live or die, and I cannot answer that question.” Their faith carried them through those very difficult days. After seven days, she woke up on April 30 with the ability to answer simple questions, including her dad’s favorite color.

Today, Greenlee is thriving! She loves to play tennis and is doing great in school. She continues to do rehab and work hard every day to recover from her injuries.

“Author Willa Cather, once said, “Where there is great love, there are always miracles”. This described the love and care she received from the wonderful nurses and staff at The Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional. Children's Miracle Network helped position the nursing staff with the tools they needed to care for Greenlee,” said Tina, Greenlee’s mother. “With the bedside computers, they were able to quickly adjust medication to stabilize her, and without the equipment utilized in the level II trauma center, Greenlee would not be with us today as her injuries would not have allowed her to survive an emergency transport to Atlanta.”

CMN Hospitals treat 62 kids every minute. Visit cmnhospitals.org to make a donation to The Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional— all donations stay local.
