With a growing national need for commercial truck drivers, Columbus Technical College is pleased to announce the start of construction on a new Commercial Truck Driving (CTD) Training Range.  A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction will be held on Monday, May 1 at 10 am.  This project is made possible through Governor Kemp’s Emergency Education Relief Fund Grant award, support from the Technical College System of Georgia, as well as support from the Pezold family.

Adding the CTD training program is another step in Columbus Tech’s work to fulfill its mission of developing the workforce needed in the Chattahoochee Valley.  The CTD program is slated to open in the Fall of 2023 and will train up to 350 drivers annually.  Additionally, the College is planning a future Veterans Education Career Transition Resource (VECTR) Workforce Development Center on the same site.

The CTD Training Range and future VECTR Center will be located at 2339 Fort Benning Road, Columbus, GA, at the Fort Benning entrance.  This location is optimally positioned to provide training and services for military, dependents, and veterans.  The location is also important because the adjacent target neighborhood is a Qualified Opportunity Zone with poverty levels above 35%. Access to both the CTD training and a future VECTR Center can be a catalyst for entry into a life-changing career for many Columbus residents.
