Piedmont Columbus Regional’s Midtown Campus has received three achievement awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke and diabetes, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital. Overall, Piedmont received 14 awards across its 22-hospital system.

This year, Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown received the following achievement awards:

  • Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Silver Plus Award

  • Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus

  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

Additionally, Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown continues to be designated as a Primary Plus Stroke Center, meeting specific scientific guidelines featuring a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department.

“Piedmont Columbus Regional is honored to be recognized for our dedication to helping patients have the best possible chance of survival and quality of life after a stroke,” said Stroke Program Manager Alexis Smith. “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work daily to improve outcomes for stroke patients.”

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke, and it is the No. 5 cause of death and No. 1 cause of adult disability in the United States. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.

Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline put the expertise of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence and research-based guidelines. As a participant in both programs, Piedmont qualified for the awards by demonstrating how the organization has committed to improving quality care.
