New Horizons Plans to Host Recovery on the River Event as Part of a State-Wide Movement
Friday, August 18th, 2023
New Horizons Behavioral Health is planning to host Recovery on the River, a free event promoting and celebrating recovery from substance use and mental health disorders in our community. Recovery on the River will be on Friday, September 8th at 6 PM at Woodruff Riverfront Park.
Recovery on the River will feature individuals living in recovery speaking on their journey and performances from the Girls Inc. Dance Team, Calvary Baptist Church worship band, and a live cover band. Other recovery focused community organizations, such as SafeHouse Ministries and House of Time, will be joining New Horizons in highlighting their own staff members who are living in recovery. The event will also include activities for all ages with face painting, raffles, games, line dancing, vendors and four food trucks. The first 200 attendees will receive a free t-shirt and $10 voucher to be used at any food truck.
Recovery on the River is part of a larger state-wide movement called Mobilize Recovery Across Georgia. The nationally recognized Clinton Foundation and the Georgia Council for Recovery have joined together in orchestrating the movement, which includes a state-wide bus tour during the month of September: National Recovery Month. The tour bus will be making its stop in Columbus on September 8th at New Horizons’ Recovery on the River event. The two organizations will also be providing their own giveaway raffles and NARCAN training, an emergency medication that reverses narcotic overdoses.
