Nurses at Piedmont Columbus Regional Earn Top Award
Tuesday, September 26th, 2023
Piedmont Columbus Regional recently hosted their annual Promise 360 Awards Celebration. The event recognized the hospital’s monthly winners from the past year and named two overall annual champions.
Piedmont Columbus Midtown Pediatric Emergency Department nurse Gaby Otterness and Piedmont Columbus Northside ICU nurse Sharon Mack were named the annual champions.
Gaby was recognized for pulling over to care for a child with cognitive deficits who was in the middle of a busy roadway. She stayed with the child even after EMS arrived.
After a patient’s special needs child had an accident, Sharon assisted by making sure the child had clean clothes to wear and took a hot shower.
The runners-up at this year’s award ceremony were John B. Amos Cancer Center radiation oncology nurse Joni Carlson, Piedmont Columbus Midtown public safety officer Kumisha Metcalf and Piedmont Columbus Northside emergency department nurse Joshua McCoy.
“We are about service above ourselves and we put the patient at the center of everything we do,” said Piedmont Columbus Regional CEO Scott Hill. “All our Promise 360 award winners are those who exemplify the very best that Piedmont stands for in our community.”
Employees, hospital visitors, patients and their family members may make a Promise 360 nomination online by visiting Piedmont.org/Promise360 or filling out a paper nomination form located throughout all Piedmont facilities. The overall winner from each hospital in the Piedmont system, like Gaby and Sharon, becomes a nominee for the President’s Award, which will be presented later this year.
