Friday, October 20th, 2023

Columbus Technical College (CTC), a premiere technical education institution in the Chattahoochee Valley area, is excited to announce a one-of-a-kind initiative that showcases student commitment to quality craftsmanship. In partnership with a local business partner Red Beard Upholstery, skilled students have crafted a “Chic Shed” tiny home that has been given away to a fortunate resident of Columbus, GA.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students from carpentry, welding, and cabinetry departments collaborated to create a custom outdoor space.

The Chic Shed build allowed faculty to instruct students on the principals involved in both building and renovation.  The shed offers a versatile space that will offer the contest winner the ability to have a new a studio, detached office, backyard retreat or a host of other options.

CTC President, Martha Ann Todd said, "At Columbus Tech, we're offering more than an education. We are changing lives in very tangible ways.  By giving away this chic shed, CTC aims to inspire potential students to explore the possibilities of pursuing a professional and technical education and its related scholastic, social and community impact.

This project provided the two-fold experience of not only showcasing student talent but also underscores the importance of education in fostering creativity and craftsmanship within the community.

WXTX FOX 54 hosted the official giveaway contest.
