RiverCenter Presents The Phantom of The Opera Silent Film with THE WAVE

Tuesday, October 24th, 2023

RiverCenter celebrates Halloween with the 1925 Lon Chaney classic silent film, The Phantom of the Opera with THE WAVE on Saturday, October 28, 7:30 PM, with organist Ron Carter providing the soundtrack on The Wave theatre organ. Tickets are $10.

Ticket buyers who come in costume will receive $5 off the price of their ticket and, this year, a costume contest will take place with prizes awarded to the winners, including a RiverCenter prize bundle and 2 FREE tickets to a future event of their choice. Ticket buyers can also save an additional $5 by bringing a non-perishable food item for the Schwob School of Music Student Food Bank. These discounts can be stacked, resulting in a free ticket for ticket buyers who come in costume AND bring a food item.

In 1925, picturegoers flocked to see Lon Chaney’s macabre incarnation of Erik, the mad ghost of the Paris Opera House. Chaney brought Gaston Leroux’s Phantom so completely to life that the press reported feminine screams and swoons, and at least one little boy diving under his seat when the Phantom’s mask is ripped away.

The film has gone through at least five different versions. With the advent of digital restoration, silent film screenings have become a new worldwide art form, with patrons experiencing what theatregoers experienced in the silent film era. Organist Ron Carter will be using all the special sounds and effects of THE WAVE to bring this classic thriller to life.

Tickets for this performance are available now through the RiverCenter box office by calling 706-256-3612, in person Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM, and online at rivercenter.org. Discounts for bringing a food item can be redeemed at the box office prior to the performance. Costume discounts can be obtained at the box office only on the night of the performance.
