Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Columbus recorded an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent in November, down three-tenths from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.
“As we prepare to ring in a new year, Georgia’s future is bright, said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With holiday shopping and retail kicking back up, Georgia’s unemployment rates are dropping faster than holiday deals. Coupled with a soaring job market and a workforce ready to take on limitless opportunities, Georgia is well on the road to success.”
The labor force increased in Columbus by 8 and ended the month with 124,737. That number went up by 3,213 when compared to November of 2022.
Columbus finished the month with 120,480 employed residents. That number increased by 427 over-the-month and rose by 3,064 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Columbus ended November with 127,600 jobs. That number increased by 700 from October to November and rose by 3,200 when compared to this time last year.
In November, initial unemployment claims increased by 40 (11%) in Columbus. When you compare November 2023 claims to November 2022, claims were down by 41 (-9%).
