CVCC and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers Celebrate a Successful Valentine's Day Blood Drive
Tuesday, February 20th, 2024
Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC), in partnership with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, is thrilled to announce the success of its Valentine's Day blood drive. The event, held on February 14, saw a heartwarming response, registering 33 generous donors eager to make a difference.
The blood drive featured double red and whole blood donations. Four double red donations and 29 whole blood donations were collected. Whole blood donations, consisting of a single unit, are processed to separate into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, maximizing the impact of each contribution. Double red donations utilize a specialized machine to extract an equivalent of two units of red blood cells.
The significance of these donations cannot be overstated. Each whole blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, while a double red donation can save up to six lives, owing to the critical need for red blood cells in trauma and surgery patients. Plasma from these donations plays a vital role in recovering septic, burn, and trauma patients by replacing lost volume. Platelets, crucial for clotting, are often directed to support cancer patients and newborns in critical need.
Thanks to the selflessness of these donors, the CVCC and LifeSouth blood drive can potentially save 111 lives. This remarkable achievement underscores the power of community and the impact of giving.
Jackie Screws, President of Chattahoochee Valley Community College, expressed her gratitude towards the donors and emphasized the importance of community involvement in saving lives. "This Valentine's Day, our Pirate community showed immense heart. The success of this blood drive reminds us of the life-saving power of donation. Together, we've made a significant difference in the lives of needy patients."
CVCC and LifeSouth extend their deepest thanks to all participants for their donations and encourage the community to continue supporting blood drives in the future. Your generosity profoundly impacts, offering hope and life to those in critical need.
