Novo Fitness Studio will celebrate a decade of helping thousands of women achieve healthier, happier lifestyles on Saturday, March 2, 2024, during a “Novo Turns 10” Celebration.  The event will take place at Novo Fitness Studio, located at 8186 Veterans Parkway, Suite B, Building 2, Columbus, Ga. 31909, from 7 a.m.- 12 p.m.  ‘Every body’ is welcome!

Raised in Columbus, Ga., sisters Ellen Cobb and Beth Anne Kennedy opened Novo Fitness Studio in 2014.  What started with just two instructors (Cobb & Kennedy) and 12 classes a week in a small, renovated pool supply building has grown to nine staff members, 17 instructors, and a brand new facility, now offering over 70 classes a week in 2024.

“Growing up as sisters, we did not always get along,” Kennedy notes, “but as we grew up, we began to realize that our differences actually complement each other, making us a pretty great team!”

“Our childhood was full of make-believe business ventures, from movie rental stores to theme parks in our backyard, and later on, we partnered in real jobs, such as babysitting and pet-sitting services,” said Cobb.  “Though we initially pursued careers in teaching (Kennedy) and social work (Cobb), it seems we were destined to be entrepreneurs.”

Novo Fitness Studio’s mission is to inspire women in all walks and stages of life (and fitness), to realize and value their beauty, strength, and worth in a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment. With five main methods, Novo Fitness Studio offers a variety of class options, all curated by a talented team of instructors, to empower clients to mix up their workouts, achieving overall better results by cross-training.

Over the past 10 years, Novo Fitness Studio has achieved a number of milestones:

  • Voted Best Fitness Center/Gym in Columbus, Ga., for eight consecutive years

  • Expanded in their original location by doubling their studio space, enlarging their boutique, and adding a playroom for childcare services in 2017; opened a brand new facility in 2022.

  • Successfully navigated the Covid-19 pandemic by developing an on demand platform and offering online ordering and curbside pickups for their boutique

  • Created and developed numerous in-house fitness methods and certification programs for instructors

  • Built a wellness-minded community of 400+ members (in-person and virtually), providing support, encouragement, and friendships.

The co-owners’ passion for their community and purpose is apparent in their unwavering commitment to their Novo clients and employees. “We’ve both had the unfortunate experience of walking into fitness studios and feeling unwelcome, like we don’t belong,” Cobb explains. “We aim each day to break the stigma that you should look a certain way, wear a certain brand, be a certain size in order to be included.
