St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Athletic Director Corry Black to Step Down at End of School Year
Monday, March 18th, 2024
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School Athletic Director and Head Vikings Basketball Coach Corry Black announced today he is stepping down to pursue an exciting new opportunity at the end of this school year. Black met with student-athletes this morning and informed them about his decision.
“It’s been a great eight-year run here at Pacelli,” Black said. “I’m so grateful to (School President) Ms. (Ronie) Collins and the school for giving me a chance to lead this program. This was not an easy decision; this is a God calling, and when He tells you to do something, you better do it. I am going to miss Pacelli; I have learned and grown so much during my time here.”
Black joined the Viking family in October 2016, as a varsity boys’ basketball coach. The role of assistant athletic director was added to his duties in 2017. He was then promoted to athletic director in June 2018. During his tenure, the school’s athletics program has grown to 15 different sports offerings. Multi-million dollar enhancements have been made to the school’s athletic facilities during Black’s time at St. Anne-Pacelli, including the installation of state-of-the-art artificial turf, new lighting and spectator seating on Deimel Field, as well as the opening of The Beck Center for Academic and Athletic Success - a testing facility/study center and indoor practice facility for Pacelli students who play football, flag football, wrestling, soccer, golf, and baseball. In the past two years, the Vikings have earned 11 team state championships, including the first-ever boys’ basketball title on March 2, 2024. In 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 Black was named region Coach of the Year. He earned Georgia Athletic Directors Association’s GIAA Class 4 Athletic Director of the Year Award in 2023.
"We are very grateful to Coach Black for his dedication to our school’s athletics program. We improved tremendously under his leadership," said Ronie Collins, St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School President. "He has a wonderful new opportunity that he felt called to pursue, and we wish him all the best in his next role.”
A search for a new athletic director and head boys’ basketball coach at St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School will begin immediately.
