Columbus’ March Unemployment Rate Holds Steady Amid Solid Job Sector Growth

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Columbus’ March unemployment rate remained unchanged over-the-month at 3.7 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.8 percent. 
 
“Georgia’s job market is red hot with opportunity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon. Once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.”
 
The labor force increased in Columbus by 901 and ended the month with 122,875. That number went up by 1,626 when compared to March of 2023.

Columbus finished the month with 118,276 employed residents. That number increased by 812 over-the-month and rose by 1,653 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Columbus ended March with 122,900 jobs. Jobs were up by 300 from February to March and rose by 1,100 when compared to this time last year.

In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by 45 (-11%) in Columbus. When you compare March 2024 claims to March 2023, claims were down by 150 (-30%).
