2024 RushSouth Music and Outdoor Festival Announced

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, July 15th, 2024

The Chattahoochee Valley will host the second annual RushSouth Music and Outdoor Festival on October 12, 2024. The event features free activities, affordable outdoor recreation adventures, and a ticketed concert featuring soul and funk legends Tower of Power, with honky-tonk master Junior Brown opening the show. Daytime activities will take place throughout Uptown, and the concert will be held at Woodruff Park, from 5 pm to 11 pm.

The Rushsouth Music Festival started last year to help celebrate and welcome the World Freestyle Kayak Championships. After hosting this prestigious international competition with competitors across the globe, leaders of the nonprofit Uptown Columbus, Inc. decided to make the festival an annual event and make it the centerpiece of its fall season.

“The highlight of the festival will be two dynamic bands who bring high energy and big fun to all of their performances,” said Tracey Green, Marketing and Communications Director with Uptown Columbus. “Experiencing live music can be exhilarating and the high level of musicianship from these two bands makes this a must-see show,” she said. Green also noted that the bands cross multiple genres and attendees can expect to hear country, rock, soul, funk, rockabilly, and even surf rock.

Doors to the concert open at 5 pm. Junior Brown takes the stage at 6 pm. Tower of Power closes the show, and their performance will start at about 8 pm. Food, beverages, and arts and crafts will be available for purchase.

Organizers have reserved the daytime hours for attendees to immerse themselves in all Uptown has to offer. Plenty of time is open for thrill seekers to book a rafting trip down the Chattahoochee River or fly on the zipline from Georgia to Alabama and back again. Multiple trip times are available for a nominal fee.

If shopping is your sport, Market Days will take place on Saturday morning from 9 am to noon. The free activity has over 100 vendors lining sidewalks along Broadway. While strolling, attendees can swing into the many shops, boutiques, and restaurants in Uptown, in addition to checking out Uptown’s robust public art collection.

The award-winning Columbus Riverwalk is another outdoor recreation amenity that attracts all types of users, from power-walkers to people watching the river flow from the many vistas along the way. The riverwalk and its 16-mile trail is also used by bicyclists of all skill levels to peddle along the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Experienced cyclists can also connect to the Dragonfly Trail network for even longer rides. Don’t have a bike? Two businesses offer bike rentals.

Prefer to do something good and help the community? Keep Columbus Beautiful is hosting a city-wide event for volunteers to remove litter, trash, and debris from our public spaces. This will include the 30th annual Help the Hooch which focuses on the watershed and riverwalk. The event will run from 8:30 to 11:30 am.
