The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) presents two concerts in one day on Saturday, February 22! Join the CSO for our educational “Young People’s Concert” presented by FABArts at 12:30pm, followed by our evening Pops concert “John Williams & Friends” at 7:30pm. Both concerts will be performed in the Bill Heard Theatre at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

Children of all ages are invited to the CSO’s afternoon Young People’s Concert at 12:30pm! This fun-filled educational concert features the cleverly narrated Mr. Smith’s Composition that explores the many sounds and feelings a symphony orchestra can evoke. Soar high with the music of Superman and jump into hyperspace with the sounds of Star Wars in this unforgettable afternoon for the whole family!

Join the CSO in the evening at 7:30pm for a night at the movies with John Williams & Friends. Immerse yourself in the epic worlds of the cinematic classics Star Wars, Superman, Harry Potter, and so much more! The award-winning film scores of John Williams as well as James Horner’s Avatar Suite, Jerry Goldsmith’s Alien, and John Ottman’s X-Men 2: Suite are sure to create a nostalgic evening filled with heroism, adventure, and romance.

Music Director and Conductor, George Del Gobbo comments,

“The Young People’s Concert will feature a dose of wonderful music plus a terrifically entertaining composition (titled Mr. Smith’s Composition) which tells us, young and old, all about how a composer actually writes music.

When it comes to movie music, the film score composer is usually the screenwriter’s best friend.  When a storyline of the plot runs into a wall, the writer can depend on the composer to orchestrate a brilliant montage that solves the problem.  At our evening Pops concert, you can hear how John Williams and his composer colleagues accomplish this so well in the music from many films you’ve come to love (or fear) through the years!”
