Former Columbus Mayor, Police Chief Jim Wetherington Dies at 87

William “Jim” Wetherington, a former Columbus mayor and police chief of Columbus, died at his home on Monday at the age of 87, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
Wetherington’s tenure as the 67th mayor of Columbus from 2007 to 2011 was marked by transformative contributions. He raised taxes to expand the Columbus police force and fostered stronger relationships between the mayor’s office and the county school district.
