CSO Presents “Mostly Mozart”
Wednesday, March 12th, 2025
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) presents “Mostly Mozart” on March 22, 2025. Intermission includes a reception with prosecco and desserts hand-crafted by Custom Cake Studio. The concert will begin at 7:30 PM and will be performed in Legacy Hall at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.
Music Director and Conductor, George Del Gobbo comments, “The CSO's ‘Mostly Mozart’ concert is exactly that: an evening of sparkling Mozart alongside a hauntingly beautiful piece by contemporary composer Max Richter. The music of these two - one a giant of classical music history, the other a well-known composer alive today - compliment and complete each other. Mozart was the first composer of the classical period who was not afraid to reflect the intensity of the human spirit in his music. Ritter's work is a quiet reflection on the same subject.”
The opening piece, Max Richter’s On the Nature of Daylight, has been featured in over twenty television shows and films, including Shutter Island, Arrival, and Stranger than Fiction. Written for strings, this piece unfolds in slow, overlapping phrases, creating an atmosphere of deep reflection and poignant beauty.
Next, pianist Esther Park makes her CSO debut with a delightful performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 in A Major, K. 414. An award-winning pianist, Park has performed as a soloist with orchestras and in recitals across the United States as well as Asia and major European cities. Since 2022, Ms. Park has been serving as the associate professor of music and L. Rexford Whiddon Distinguished Chair in Piano at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University.
Following a thirty-minute intermission and reception, the CSO returns with Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 in A Major, K. 201. Composed in 1774 when Mozart was just 18, this elegant four-movement work is a striking example of his early mastery. The piece’s charm, clarity, and emotional nuance make it one of Mozart’s most beloved early symphonies.
