Columbus’ Unemployment Rate Drops in April

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Columbus recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5% in April, down seven-tenths from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4%.
“This April, unemployment rates dropped across every region of Georgia,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When we connect Georgians with meaningful work, we're putting food on tables, creating stability for individuals and families, and building an economy where our children can see their future—right here at home. This is how we grow a stronger Georgia—one job, one family, one community at a time.”
The labor force in Columbus decreased by 414 and ended the month at 128,569. That number increased by 434 compared to April 2024.
Columbus finished the month with 124,022 employed residents. That number increased by 500 from the previous month and increased by 217 from the same time a year ago.
Columbus ended April with 122,700 jobs. Job numbers increased by 500 from the previous month and rose by 800 from the same time last year.
In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 252 over the month and increased by 257 compared to the same month a year ago, totaling 659.
