Columbus Nonprofit Calls for Action Amid Foster Care Shortage

Across the Peach State, approximately 11,000 children are currently in the foster care system. In February, Georgia House Bill 136 was signed into law, increasing the tax credit for individuals who donate to foster care support organizations. While the financial incentive is a step forward, one local organizer believes it will take more than money to truly support children in need.

Shawna Love, executive director of the nonprofit group Boyz 2 Men, says the number of foster children continues to rise, but the number of foster parents is not keeping pace. She emphasizes that these children need more than just funding—they need foster parents, clothing, and personal items.
