Columbus city leaders are at odds over whether to use taxpayer dollars to cover $47,000 in legal fees—a debate that took center stage at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
The fees were incurred when the HR Director of the Finance Department sought legal representation during a sheriff’s office investigation into the former city manager’s leaked tax information. Some council members argue the law firm overcharged the city, while others believe the city is legally obligated to pay.
