Staff Report From Georgia CEO

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) presents two concerts in one day on Saturday, February 14! Join the CSO for our educational “The Orchestra Games” at 12:30pm, followed by our evening Pops concert “Lights, Camera Music!” at 7:30pm. Both concerts will be performed in the Bill Heard Theatre at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

Children of all ages are invited to the CSO’s afternoon “The Orchestra Games”at 12:30pm! This high-energy, family-friendly concert turns the symphony into a playful Olympic arena, where strings, brass, and woodwinds compete in musical challenges to win the gold. With the help of a narrator, kids will learn how the orchestra works all while clapping, laughing, and rooting for their musical champions. John Williams’ thrilling “The Flight to Neverland” from Hook and “Flying Theme” from E.T. bring this musical adventure full circle in an unforgettable symphonic showdown.

Music Director and Conductor, George Del Gobbo, comments, “Meet the instruments of the orchestra as if they were competing in the Olympic Games.  Gregory Smith's Orchestra Games lets you do just that.  This entertaining and educational Family Concert is sure to captivate the "young ones" as well as give caring parents a moment of rest.  The program also includes music from two John Williams film scores:  Hook and E.T.  Give your kids (and you) a treat!

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the CSO in the evening at 7:30pm for a night honoring the legendary collaboration between composer John Williams and director Steven Spielberg. From the sweeping drama of Saving Private Ryan and War Horse to the exhilarating thrills of Jurassic Park and Jaws, Williams’ music captures the heart of every story it touches. The program features unforgettable selections from Hook, E.T., Indiana Jones, Munich, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and more!

Del Gobbo comments, “When two geniuses join forces, only good things happen.  Take one genius director, Steven Spielberg, add one genius film score composer, John Williams, and you have the makings of one incredible Pops concert.  The performance list includes music from E.T., Jurassic Park, Jaws (yikes!), Saving Private Ryan, and many more.  Join the CSO in reliving and enjoying some of the most evocative film scores ever written.”
