The race is officially on for the vacant 14th Congressional District. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has issued the official call for the election to fill the seat left vacant Monday with the resignation of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The election will be held on March 10, in Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker, Whitfield, and portions of Cobb counties.
The election will not have a primary and all candidates, regardless of party, will be on the same ballot. If no candidate receives 50 percent of the vote plus one, Georgia law requires a runoff, which is likely given the number of candidates. The runoff will be held on April 7, 2026.
Qualifying for the Special Election is Monday, January 12, Tuesday, January 13 – from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days – and Wednesday, January 14, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m. The qualifying fee is $5,220 and all qualifying will be held at the Office of Georgia Secretary of State’s Elections Division, 2 MLK Jr. Dr., in the Sloppy Floyd West Tower in Atlanta.
Although qualifying has not begun this is expected to be a crowded field – and the list of candidates includes some well-known political figures and some newcomers.
The Republicans who have filed paperwork are Star Black, Beau Brown, James Marty Brown, Regan Box, Elvis Casely, Jeff Criswell, Daniel Davenport, Christian Michael Hurt, Uloma Expete Kama, Benjamin Pope, Michael Allen Corbin, Thomas Jonathan Jackson Gray, Nicky Lama, state Sen. Colton Moore, Linvel Risner, Brian Stover, Meg Strickland, Jim Tully, Jenna Turnipseed and Jacqueline Cherise Wilmer.
On the Democratic side, Shawn Harris, who challenged Greene in the 2024 general election, is running. Harris received 35 percent of the vote in the 2024 race. Also running as a Democrat is Clarence Blalock of Paulding County.
The Congressional seat will remain open until someone is elected and will trim the House Republican majority while it remains vacant. The GOP currently holds 220 seats to the Democrats’ 213 seats with two vacancies, according to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Monday, February 9, is the last day to register to vote in this election. Advance in-person absentee voting will begin on Monday, February 16, 2026.
