Columbus Technical College Recognizes GOAL and EAGLE Winners
Monday, February 23rd, 2026
Columbus Technical College hosted its inaugural GOAL and EAGLE Recognition and Scholarship Brunch on Tuesday, February 17, honoring two outstanding students for their leadership, perseverance, and academic excellence.
May Saysombath, a Dental Hygiene student graduating in May 2026, was named the college’s Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA, serving as her class secretary, and actively participating in the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, she exemplifies academic and professional dedication. Saysombath will represent Columbus Technical College at the state GOAL competition in Atlanta.
Marcus Thomas was recognized as the college’s Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) winner. After overcoming early learning challenges, multiple setbacks, and a lifechanging accident, Thomas returned to complete his high school diploma and is now enrolled in the Health Care Professional Program. He will serve as Georgia’s 2026 EAGLE Delegate, representing adult education success statewide.
Both honorees received a full scholarship to continue their education at Columbus State University upon completing their programs at Columbus Technical College.
The scholarship was made possible through an endowed gift from Bobsie Carlton Swift, a dedicated supporter of education and student opportunity. Swift’s endowment establishes a permanent source of funding that will help future GOAL and EAGLE students continue their education for years to come. Her commitment reflects a deep belief in the power of education to change lives and strengthen communities.
Swift attended the brunch to personally congratulate the inaugural recipients, sharing her hope that the endowment will inspire students to pursue their goals with confidence and perseverance—and to one day give back to those who follow.
Columbus Technical College proudly recognizes these exceptional students and celebrates their dedication to excellence, leadership, and lifelong learning.
