Fort Benning-Trained Soldier to Receive Medal of Honor Posthumously

A soldier who trained at Fort Benning will receive the U.S. military’s highest award for valor more than a dozen years after sacrificing his life in Afghanistan for another soldier’s safety.
President Trump called the family of Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis about the decision to posthumously award his heroism with the Medal of Honor. Ollis died at age 24 after confronting a suicide bomber to save a foreign soldier he just met.
