Piedmont Welcomes 73 Physicians to its Graduate Medical Education Residency Programs
Friday, March 27th, 2026
Piedmont welcomed 73 medical school graduates on Match Day 2026 into the Graduate Medical Education (GME) residency programs at three of its hospitals. Piedmont Athens Regional, Piedmont Columbus Regional, and Piedmont Macon Medical Center welcomed 32, 13, and 28, resident physicians, respectively, to their GME programs.
Medical school graduates apply and interview with GME programs across the country before learning on March 20, where they have “matched” to continue their education and training. At Piedmont, residents match into Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Transitional Year residency programs. This next level of study lasts between one and three years, during which time residents gain valuable experience in hands-on patient care under the supervision of highly-trained specialists in their field of study.
Piedmont recently announced the launch of a new systemwide GME program designed to expand and integrate medical and surgical residency training across several of its major clinical hubs beginning in 2027.
Under the leadership of Karen Law, M.D., Piedmont’s new Chief of GME, the program aims to grow residency and fellowship opportunities at Piedmont Atlanta, Piedmont Athens Regional, and Piedmont Augusta. By 2035, the expanded program is projected to host 386 additional residents and fellows each year, strengthening Georgia’s physician workforce and broadening access to high-quality care across the state.
Piedmont’s newest residents begin training this summer. To learn more about working at Piedmont, visit piedmontcareers.org.
