A major traffic shift is coming to a busy Columbus interchange and drivers need to prepare for overnight closures next week.

Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation have scheduled the transition to the new “diverging diamond” interchange at Buena Vista Road and Interstate 185.

The traffic shift is scheduled to take place overnight from 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 30, weather permitting.

GDOT officials say the overnight hours were chosen to minimize the impact on local and commercial drivers. However, navigating the area during this window will require extra patience and detour routing.
