Public Hearings Set for 2026 Columbus Property Tax Proposal

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, May 27th, 2026

Citizens in Columbus could be paying more in 2026 than they did the previous year in property taxes.

A news release, provided by the Columbus City Manager’s Department, states the Consolidated Government of Columbus “announces its intention to increase the 2026 property taxes it will levy this year over the rollback millage rate in the following taxing districts.”

Those district rates are stated as Districts one, five, six and seven potentially seeing a 2% increase, while District 2 could see a 4.5% increase.

According to city representatives, when taxable property is assessed, Georgia Law requires a rollback millage rate that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.
