Unemployment Declines in Nearly All of Georgia’s Regional Commissions in March

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that nearly all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions reported lower unemployment rates in March.
“There's no better way to mark Economic Development Week than with measurable results,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “With the state labor force and employment both reaching all-time highs and unemployment falling across all metro areas and nearly all regional commissions, more Georgians are securing good-paying jobs that support families, build the future, and strengthen the communities they call home."
Here is a synopsis of each regional commission:
Atlanta Regional Commission
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.3% over-the-month. The rate was 3.3% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 18,013 over-the-month and up 26,992 over-the-year, to 2,736,476, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 25,746 over-the-month and up 26,879 over-the-year, to 2,646,286, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were up 93 over-the-month and down 1,086 over-the-year, to 8,685.
Central Savannah River
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.9% over-the-month. The rate was 3.9% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 240 over-the-month and up 1,765 over-the-year, to 215,298, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 896 over-the-month and up 1,780 over-the-year, to 206,935, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were up 13 over-the-month and down 8 over-the-year, to 728.
Coastal Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.1% over-the-month. The rate was 3.1% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 2,000 over-the-month and up 3,133 over-the-year, to 370,481, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 2,856 over-the-month and up 3,021 over-the-year, to 359,103, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were down 18 over-the-month and up 46 over-the-year, to 882.
Georgia Mountains
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.0% over-the-month. The rate was 3.1% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 820 over-the-month and up 3,385 over-the-year, to 248,574.
- The number of employed was up 1,365 over-the-month and up 3,385 over-the-year, to 241,044.
- Initial claims were down 128 over-the-month and up 32 over-the-year, to 542.
Heart of Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.6% over-the-month. The rate was 3.6% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 1,094 over-the-month and up 2,077 over-the-year, to 121,679.
- The number of employed was down 744 over-the-month and up 2,062 over-the-year, to 117,330.
- Initial claims were up 20 over-the-month and down 62 over-the-year, to 393.
Middle Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.6% over-the-month. The rate was 3.5% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 47 over-the-month and up 1,084 over-the-year, to 227,192.
- The number of employed was up 635 over-the-month and up 971 over-the-year, to 219,077.
- Initial claims were down 36 over-the-month and down 56 over-the-year, to 700.
Northeast Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.2% over-the-month. The rate was 3.2% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 841 over-the-month and up 4,784 over-the-year, to 359,368, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 1,796 over-the-month and up 4,927 over-the-year, to 348,017, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were up 17 over-the-month and down 71 over-the-year, to 887.
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.3% over-the-month. The rate was 3.2% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 2,155 over-the-month and up 4,086 over-the-year, to 459,952, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 2,996 over-the-month and up 3,515 over-the-year, to 444,625, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were up 718 over-the-month and up 852 over-the-year, to 2,557.
River Valley
- The unemployment rate was up one-tenth to 4.4% over-the-month. The rate was 4.0% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 224 over-the-month and up 541 over-the-year, to 146,807.
- The number of employed was up 143 over-the-month and down 60 over-the-year, to 140,407.
- Initial claims were up 576 over-the-month and up 658 over-the-year, to 1,210.
Southern Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.5% over-the-month. The rate was 3.6% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 808 over-the-month and up 1,064 over-the-year, to 176,548.
- The number of employed was down 255 over-the-month and up 1,223 over-the-year, to 170,332.
- Initial claims were down 38 over-the-month and down 126 over-the-year, to 520.
Southwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.6% over-the-month. The rate was 3.6% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 1,460 over-the-month and up 473 over-the-year, to 149,311.
- The number of employed was down 1,010 over-the-month and up 519 over-the-year, to 143,930.
- Initial claims were up 78 over-the-month and down 10 over-the-year, to 496.
Three Rivers
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.3% over-the-month. The rate was 3.3% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 1,236 over-the-month and up 2,461 over-the-year, to 273,514, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 1,743 over-the-month and up 2,510 over-the-year, to 264,617, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were up 185 over-the-month and up 14 over-the-year, to 945.
