City Manager Tyson Begly has selected Kimberly Mitchell to fill the position of Community Reinvestment Director. City Manager Tyson Begly will go before Columbus Council for approval of her appointment on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the next scheduled business meeting of the Council. 

Kimberly currently serves as Assistant Director of the Community Reinvestment and Real Estate Department, a position she has held since August 2022. She is an urban planner with nine years of experience working in or for local governments. Her approach to planning focuses on creating sustainable systems through research and data  while listening and responding to community needs. 

In her current role, Kimberly assists with managing the Community Reinvestment and Real Estate Department and its employees, monitors departmental projects and budgets, and coordinates programs and activities involving  federal and state funding, community development, housing, real estate, and planning. Her experience also includes work as a Senior Planner with Mosaic Community Planning and as a Junior City Planner with the City of Fairburn.

Kimberly is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Tufts University and a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from the Georgia Institute of 
Technology. 

Kimberly’s experience in local government planning, community development, housing programs, and grantfunded initiatives provides a strong foundation for her transition into the Community Reinvestment Director role. She comes highly recommended by my selection committee of Deputy City Managers Lisa Goodwin and Pam Hodge, Finance Director Angelica Alexander, and Human Resources Director Ola Terrell.
