Georgia Diesel Prices Reach Record Highs, and Local Farmers are Feeling the Pressure

Diesel in Georgia rose above $6.35 a gallon over the weekend, reaching a record high, according to motor group AAA. The skyrocketing prices are now putting pressure on food supply, transportation, retail prices — and Georgia farmers.
Blueberries, peaches, and Georgia’s iconic Vidalia onions are some of the specialty crops that local farmers produce, which could put them in jeopardy as diesel prices continue to spiral further out of control.
From the machines that harvest crops to the trucks that bring them to your grocery store, diesel powers just about everything in the food supply chain.
