The United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley gave a presentation on affordable housing challenges during this week’s Columbus City Council meeting. One of the concerns presented is what officials call “missing middle housing.”

The United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley presented a plan forward for the city of Columbus based on a study done by Georgia Tech over the past couple of years. A core challenge shown in the study is what researchers called the housing mobility gap.

Housing mobility gap

The housing mobility gap is the lack of housing options that let individuals and families move between levels of stability as income and circumstances change.

Pat Frey, vice president of Home for Good for United Way, said the lack of movement caused by a lack of housing options creates a backlog.
