Monday, June 1st, 2026

The two candidates for Columbus mayor are giving their take on public concerns about a possible data center following an unofficial report released by several groups.

The Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce is prioritizing putting guardrails into the Technology Overlay District where it would be built. If a data center comes to Columbus at all, the chamber’s president said the goal is ensuring it won’t harm the community.

Chamber says no project exists yet

Jansen Tidmore, president and CEO of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, said as of now there is no data center project. He said if they don’t work on ordinances and guidelines for the district, they will never be able to have a data center or any other project inside the district.

“The UDO tech overlay district is the starting point not the end point,” Tidmore said. “This isn’t the end, this isn’t the golden pass for data centers to start tomorrow this is the starting point for the conversation.”
