Columbus City Council Approves Uptown Teen Curfew, Technology Overlay for Zoning
Thursday, June 18th, 2026
Columbus City Council approved two ordinances Tuesday morning, passing a 9 p.m. curfew for teens in the uptown district and a technology overlay that adjusts zoning for future tech industries.
The uptown curfew passed in a 7-1 vote and will go into effect 10 days after Mayor Skip Henderson signs the order. The curfew will remain active until the end of September.
Council members said the curfew is part of a crime suppression strategy for the uptown area.
“If Chief Mathis says that he needs a curfew as part of his crime suppression strategy, then implement the curfew when and where he asks for it,” Gregory Foster, a Columbus citizen, said.
